Chapter 28 That's what friends do
They were again on their way to CitadelGarrus had overheard Shepard giving the order to Jokerafter their post-action debriefing. During the talk Garrus had noticed that Shepard's heart was not in the meeting and guessed that she was still musing on the horrible things Ashley Williams had said to her. An incoming call from the Illusive Man had cut the debriefing short, and now the crew was back to their normal posts.
Garrus heard the telltale sound of footsteps behind his back, and turned to face Shepard.
"Need me for something?" he asked.
"Garrus..." He had never heard Shepard's voice s

Chapter 31 Message from past
The Normandy headed out the same evening and turned its course toward Illium. Shepard informed Garrus that in addition to finally getting the cannon she had promised him, there would be two potential recruits she hoped to find from there. As they prepared to land Garrus was surprised to see Kasumi Goto joining him and Shepard on the ground team. The young thief was so inconspicuous on board the ship that Garrus had almost forgotten she even existedhe started to have an idea, why she was so good at what she did for a living.
"Oh, we are just picking up something special I ordered for Shepard," she re

It was already lunch time when Garrus woke up and went to mess hall to grab something to eat. The Normandy was en route to their next destination and most of the crew was on duty, so only Kasumi was sitting at one of the tables.
"Oi!" the young girl called when she saw him walking down the steps. "C-Sec!"
"I would prefer if you called me by name, Kasumi," Garrus gruntedhe was still feeling groggy and the cheerfulness of the human felt annoying. "Or would you like me calling you thief in public?"
"Geez, Garrus," Kasumi laughed while he prepared a tray of food for himself. "I didn't want to insul

Chapter 37 Thane
The mercenary team in the next room was caught completely off guard by their arrival. Two of the mercs were thrown through a large window by Shepard's biotics and the others fell in short order before they had time to regroup. Before the last merc had hit the floor Kasumi was working on a locked door at the side of the room.
When the door opened they saw three salarians nervously waiting in the room.
"Are you guys all right in here?" Shepard asked, taking a step toward them.
"Get back!" one of the salarians shouted, waving a gun wildly. "Get back... I'll shoot!"
"Relax," Garrus advised. "Don't do anything you'll r

As they reached the space port, they saw Pitne For working alone with his datapad and his bodyguards were further away. Nervously he glanced up from his work as they approached.
"Hello again, Earth-clan," he said. "Did you speak to the detective?"
"Why are the mercs after you?" Garrus asked bluntly.
"I know nothing about any mercenaries," the volus protested. "I'm merely an innocent merchant trying to make his way in life."
"The Eclipse are out for your blood," Shepard informed the alien. "I need your help to break into their base. Shouldn't we work together?"
"Yes! You're right, Earth-clan I'm desp

Chapter 32 Liara
Together they walked across the market area and headed up the stairs leading to administrative offices. An asari behind a desk greeted them.
"Hello, commander Shepard," she said. "Liara will be pleased to see you."
"You're Liara's assistant?" Shepard asked, stopping by the table.
"Yes," the asari replied. "Liara relies upon me to acquire useful intelligence. I don't have her network of contacts, but I supply her with supplemental data. It's really an honour to work with her."
"What's Liara's reputation here on Illium?" Shepard asked, picking on the admiring tone the asari was using.
"She's greatly respected," she

As they passed through the cargo terminal Shepard stopped.
"Didn't Liara say the one who could help us find Thane was here?" she asked.
"Yep," Kasumi confirmed.
"Might as well talk to her first," Garrus said, guessing where Shepard was going with it.
They turned to the side and found an office where two asari were working.
"Seryna?" Shepard asked.
"Who wants to know?" one of the asari asked, raising her head.
"Name's Shepard," Shepard replied, cutting straight to business. "Liara T'Soni said you might have information on Thane Krios."
"Tana," she stood up and spoke to her companion. "Cover for me."

Chapter 36 Dantius Towers
After introducing Samara on the Normandy and after eating a quick meal in the mess hall Shepard, Garrus and Kasumi headed back to Nos Astra. Their agreed time to meet Seryna was almost upon them, and as they arrived to the transport hub, they found the asari already waiting for them.
"Are you ready to go?" the woman asked.
"Let's go," Shepard nodded.
The four of them climbed into a car, Seryna and Shepard settling on the front seats, while Garrus sat behind Shepard and Kasumi on the seat behind the asari.
"The towers are heavily guarded, and you'll find more resistance closer to the penthouse," Seryna exp
Vakarian glanced up as she came in tensing for a moment. "Admiral," he said respectfully. "Is it really that late? Didn't think you would be here for a while longer." His mandibles clicked tight against his face right after he said the words. "Sorry, I just meant.."
The first reply on the tip of her tongue was one she bit back. "Hackett isn't letting me work very long until I'm cleared. Walking wounded remember?" As she had been speaking, Vakarian started to get out of his chair, eyes on her cane.
"I remember. If you want I can.."
"Relax," she said as she limped around to the other side of the bed. Another chair had been brought i
Hannah Shepard finished reading over the latest inventory report that had been sent her way, and shook her head. She dashed off a quick reply to the field doctor who had made another note that they were running low on supplies and needed them now, reminding him that his request was cleared but the supplies could only arrive as fast as the shuttle could get there. The message was short and probably not as professional as it should be, but she didn't care. Normally she would be a bit more sympathetic, but this was the fifth message inside the hour, and this was not the first time the doctor had tried to pull more supplies than he needed. S
